Councils Prepare for Spring Semester

PUBLISHED JANUARY 19, 2007

Though the elections for the next crop of undergraduate student council leaders will take place some time this spring, the maneuvering has already begun as two representatives of the Columbia College Student Council have hinted at potential runs for the presidency of the executive board.

In the meantime, though, current class and representative councils still have major plans in the works. The Engineering Student Council, General Studies Student Council, and Student Government Association have all expressed a desire to increase students' level of integration and unity within their respective schools and the larger Columbia entity, while the representatives for the Columbia College Class of 2009 may have pushed farther than anyone else by working to introduce Flex into the surrounding community beyond the gates.

Though the four undergraduate councils will again work together on large initiatives like the Glass House Rocks fete, the councils' spring agendas continue the recent trend in focusing on somewhat different initiatives. What remains to be seen now is whether a major task like last year's Baker Blast controversy and last semester's financial aid reform campaign will arise, and, if so, how closely together the individual councils will deal with that task.
