Two Run for ESC President
Eash Cumarasamy, SEAS '08, and Liz Strauss, SEAS '08, will be pitted against each other tonight to determine the new president of the Engineering Student Council Executive Board.
Nominations for the E-Board, which is internally elected by members of ESC every spring, started Feb. 27 and ended last night at 11:59 p.m., when the candidates' names were released.
Before tonight's internal election, candidates will be asked to make a five-minute speech and then face up to six questions each, three of which will come from the council and three of which will come from the audience.
"It's [running for president] something it took a while to decide to do, and I decided that there are a lot of issues that affect the student body as a whole," Cumarasamy said. "The ESC president is the best position on the council to be involved with these issues."
Cumarasamy said he hopes to increase awareness of ESC's work, to increase the sense of "SEAS identity," and to ensure that there is student input and involvement in the search for a permanent dean to replace Zvi Galil, who is leaving at the end of this academic year.
Strauss could not be reached for comment after the nominees were set late last night.
In the other E-Board races, Gunnar Aasen, SEAS '10, Samantha John, SEAS '09, and Daniel Wong, SEAS '08, are running for vice president intergroup, while the position of VP policy race is between Prish Dunstan, SEAS '09, Michael Fu, SEAS '09, and Chandni Saxena, SEAS '09. Kim Manis, SEAS '09, is running unopposed for VP of student life. Erin Svokos, SEAS '09, and Krissie Zambrano, SEAS '09, are running against each other for secretary.
The elections will be held tonight at 9 p.m. in the Satow Room of Lerner Hall.
