Princeton Coach Leaves For Denver

PUBLISHED MARCH 21, 2007

In a surprising offseason move, Princeton men's head basketball coach Joe Scott has decided to step down from his position with the Tigers to become the new head coach at the University of Denver.

Scott confirmed the move to ESPN.com's Andy Katz Tuesday, stating: "It's about me feeling this is a good situation. This was an unbelievably emotional decision. My wife went and played and coached at Princeton, too. I love Princeton basketball. When I looked at everything, it was the right thing. It's more about that than leaving my alma mater."

Last season, the Tigers finished with their worst Ivy campaign in history, going 2-12 in the Ancient Eight, 11-17 overall. In his three seasons at Princeton, Scott went 38-45, including an 18-24 Ivy League record that featured a 10-4 mark two years ago-surprising after the 2-11 start to the season. Scott took over at Princeton in 2004 for John Thompson III, the current head coach at Georgetown, after four seasons at Air Force, where he lead the Falcons to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 42 years.

Scott will be replacing Terry Carroll at Denver who compiled a 79-99 record in six seasons at the helm of the Pioneers. Last year, Denver went a disappointing 4-25, finishing last in the Sun Belt Conference with a 3-15 record.
