Mama's Little Kitchen: Great-Grandma Gussie Doniger's Kapusta

PUBLISHED APRIL 26, 2007

1 head green cabbage, chopped
1 can plain tomato sauce
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
Canola or olive oil
1/2 cup raisins
3 Tbsp flour

Throw the chopped cabbage and the tomato sauce into a soup pot. Cook, covered, on low to medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 45 minutes. In a separate saute pan, saute the onion and flour in a little oil. When onion is translucent, add it to the pot of cabbage. Add sugar and raisins. Stir and allow to cook at low heat for another 15 minutes or so. This is a very forgiving dish. It can cook for one or two hours, depending on when you need to serve it. Serve hot or cold.
