At the end of last semester, then-candidate for president of Columbia College Student Council, Daphne Chen, CC ’14, suggested a merger between CCSC and Engineering Student Council.
Hannah Germond, GS and current first-year class president, was elected GSSC president, defeating Community Services Representative Robbie LeDesma, GS, and Joseph Giovanni Ramos, GS and current vice president of student events.
The event was supposed to take place at Pier 60 in Chelsea on Nov. 2, but the venue was still flooded from the storm, and the Milvets have not set a new date or location.
The GSSC is changing is programming after examining the unique cross-section of full-time students who are also full-time professionals.
The General Studies Student Council has stipulated that at least $15,000 from ticket sales for the ball must be recuperated and used to help pay for the gala.
The $8,000 Travel Fund is intended to finance transportation expenses, and the $15,000 Capital Investment Fund will help groups that need to purchase “big ticket items."
Governing boards were allowed to have some veto power during this year's Funding at Columbia University process. Only the Activities Board at Columbia did not vote for the final allocations.
GS Dean Peter Awn said on Monday that Class Day will take place May 13, a day earlier than scheduled, because President Obama is speaking at Barnard’s commencement later that day.
General Studies students elected Jennifer Wisdom GSSC president and Nikki Morgan GSSC vice president of policy. Justin Carter was elected to the University Senate.
The Student Governing Board and the General Studies Student Council have formed a task force to find ways to get GS students more involved in student groups.
