Q, Barnard’s queer student group, will hold an information session and then flyering party Tuesday night—the first day of Queer Awareness Month—for new gender-inclusive bathroom signs that have been installed over the past two weeks on Barnard’s campus.

This year’s theme, “La Frontera”—Spanish for “borderlands”—is a nod to the fact that October is also Latino Heritage Month, as well as a tribute to the famed queer and cultural scholar Gloria Anzaldúa.
Last May three prominent leaders of the LGBT community—Lianna Reagan, BC ’11, Avi Edelman, CC ’11, and Sean Udell, CC ’11—graduated, leaving Columbia’s queer community noticeably quieter.
