This past Sunday, the Metropolitan New York Rugby Union Collegiate Rugby Championship was hosted by Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., just 90 miles north of Manhattan.

After defeating 23rd-ranked Vassar last weekend, the Columbia University Rugby Football Club took on the 20th-ranked United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday. In its closest match since a five-point victory over Iona in September, Columbia defeated the Merchant Marine Academy, 31-22, to claim the Metropolitan New York Division I championship. The win improved the Old Blue’s record to 7-0, while giving the team the third seed for the Northeast Rugby Union playoffs, which begin next week.
