Major requirements for Columbia College political science students will be lessened by 12 points starting this semester, the Columbia political science department announced.

As Columbia College students reluctantly settle back in from spring break, they might be surprised to hear that their predecessors are eagerly signing up for a chance to revisit the Core Curriculum.

Joel Klein, CC '67 and chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, will speak at this year's Columbia College Class Day, scheduled for May 19. As the head of the largest public school system in the country, Klein oversees more than 1,400 schools and 1.1 million students.

Despite recent revelations of Paterson’s extramarital affairs and the possible misuse of campaign funds, the public’s support for the new governor testifies to its desire for a return to normalcy. Paterson must capitalize on his experience and positive reception to tackle his first major tests as governor.

Much-awaited admissions envelopes were mailed out to Columbia’s early decision admits to the classes of 2012 of Columbia College and the School of Engineering and Applied Science Tuesday afternoon. According to admissions statistics, the combined admit rate fell slightly from last year.

In the first semester since Columbia College revised its pass/fail policy, 1.8 percent more of the student body chose to use the option than did last year.

A move to unify the undergraduate experience and integrate the administrations of General Studies and Columbia College would be a smart one, but the differing needs of students—both curricular and logistical—should not be ignored if such a proposal is enacted.
