Shirley Chen takes a comprehensive look at the work of a number of designers who showed their collections at New York Fashion Week. Designers include Mara Hoffman, Lela Rose, Abaeté, Araks, Akiko Ogawa, and Sass & Bide.

Designer Nanette Lepore’s Fall 2008 collection debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Feb. 6. It was an extremely feminine collection with a color palette that ranged from black, gray, plumy burgundy, and pale pink to fuchsia, red, orange, and teal. Tweeds and plaids were mixed in with floral blouses, colorful stripes, embroidered sweaters, and lots of lace, giving the collection a glamorous yet wearable feel.

Disco balls spun overhead at Saturday night’s last show, and not just because everyone was ready to party.

ABAÉTE
As soon as the familiar tunes of Columbia University’s own Vampire Weekend began at the opening of Abaéte’s fall 2008 runway show, it was destined to be a success. The models walked easily down the catwalk, which was a good fit for the collection’s breezy, youthful feel.
