While most football fans are anticipating Sunday’s Patriots-Colts showdown, Ivy football fans in particular may have an additional high-stakes contest to look forward to in November: the 124th edition of The Game. Taking place at the Yale Bowl in three weeks, this game is developing added significance with the emergence of Yale and Harvard as the league’s only unbeaten teams.

I’ve always tended to keep a distance from the madness surrounding Division I-A college football, not because it lacks excitement, but because of the complex nature of determining who’s best. It seems like there are an infinite number of bowl games, and at the end of the season, there’s always some ambiguity about the “real” champion.

Do fans have the right to boo poor performances? This was the question that hit the airwaves in most sports talk shows Tuesday afternoon following the not-so-pleasant reaction of Chicago Cubs fans to their team during a rough loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
