While students may bemoan the loss of trays in John Jay Dining Hall, recent changes to Columbia Dining Services go beyond what’s seen in the cafeteria. In the face of skyrocketing global food prices and rising operation costs, the department’s inner bureaucracy has seen significant scaling down while the price of food at its on-campus eateries has gone up.

In order for off-campus Flex to truly serve the needs of the campus, the student body must have a voice now and the administration must be open about all its dealings, pursuing businesses based on student preferences.

Reasonable people can debate whether a new year in college actually offers a chance to recreate your identity. This year, however, Columbia is offering a comparable opportunity: new identification cards.
