All of the Columbia rowing teams will be in action this week, and all three will be looking to finish at the top of their respective fields.

All three Columbia rowing teams will be in action this week, with the lightweights and women hitting the road and the heavyweights holding down the fort at home.

The Light Blue men’s heavyweight and women’s rowing teams will be opening their conference seasons this weekend. The men’s team will race against Rutgers at the Collins Cup in New York, while the women will travel to New Haven to compete in the Connell Cup against Penn and Yale.

The Columbia crew teams are returning from their Florida spring break with tans and triumphs. Competing in the Governor’s Cup Regatta, both the men and the women garnered substantial wins to make a notable spring season debut.

Fifteen minutes outside of Niagara Falls, deep within the heart of Canada’s serene landscape, in the small town of Ridgefield, Ontario, rowing is not a sport commonly practiced.

In its first and only regatta of the fall season, the freshman men’s lightweight crew team had one top-10 finish while both women’s teams finished outside of the top half at the Belly of the Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.

Columbia continued its recent string of hirings for the third week in a row, as Jonathan Douglas and Edward Golding were named assistants to the men’s rowing team.

Yesterday, Columbia announced two hirings for the rowing teams in Malcolm Doldron and Scott Ramsey.

Columbia has hired Scott Alwin as the new head coach of the men’s lightweight rowing team, replacing the recently resigned Marc DeRose. DeRose has since moved on to become a representative for Vespoli, a rowing shell manufacturer.
