Homecoming was an example of a policy done right: Public Safety watched over the crowd, but alcohol flowed easily. Columbia's administration and student councils deserve praise for engendering the kind of festive atmosphere that has been lacking in previous years.

While it is necessary for the University not to encourage underage drinking, Columbia should only enforce restrictions that are reasonable and that do not encourage students to seek alcohol in unsafe situations.
