Each Friday, I wake up to host my radio show on WBAR. We play songs that we like, talk about whatever we deem relevant, and we do it all for an audience of about nine people.

One way or another, we’re confronted with the question of how much of our rebellious pasts we can shed before we wake up one day unable to relate to the next generation.

Australian-born vocalist and musician Scott Matthew has a cute accent, but foreign inflections are a dime a dozen. Having two first names, however, is not so common.

The Lion’s Den in Greenwich Village is renowned for offering a wide variety of independent, “real” music to its patrons. On Saturday, this reliable venue came through once more, featuring the New Orleans brass funk-rock ensemble, Bonerama.

On Oct. 1, 2007, Radiohead fans who paid a routine visit to the band’s homepage were in for a surprise, in the form of a short message from band member Jonny Greenwood.

It was a motley assortment at Highline Ballroom on Saturday: a red-eyed albino rapper onstage with two rotund jokers, a pretty raunchy woman and a recently-minted solo artist with a vengeance. It was also one of the best hip-hop shows I’ve seen in a long time.

I wanted so badly for Zach Condon to come onstage looking a little bit eccentric.
