Councils Address Aid, Endure Impeachments

The four undergraduate student councils have defined the year largely through their responses to events that affected the campus as a whole, while also dealing with internal council strife.

Voters Elect Berg GSSC President, Rain Policy VP

General Studies Student Council VP of Communications Brody Berg was elected president after Wednesday’s elections. With 50 percent of the vote, Berg won by a large enough margin to easily secure the student body presidency.

With two undergraduate council executive-board elections completed and two more to go, students are witnessing the peak of the campaign season. To curb such student apathy, the councils should revise the campaign schedule and engage the student body early and often to underscore why student government matters. They must further act to effectively end the favoritism some outgoing council leaders seem to extend to their preferred candidate.

After several days of review, the office of School of General Studies Dean of Students Mary McGee announced Friday that it would uphold the impeachment of General Studies Student Council President Niko Cunningham.

Though each of the four candidates running for student body president brings unique strengths to the table, we believe that Brody Berg is best positioned to deliver what GS needs.
