The four undergraduate student councils have defined the year largely through their responses to events that affected the campus as a whole, while also dealing with internal council strife.

General Studies Student Council VP of Communications Brody Berg was elected president after Wednesday’s elections. With 50 percent of the vote, Berg won by a large enough margin to easily secure the student body presidency.

With two undergraduate council executive-board elections completed and two more to go, students are witnessing the peak of the campaign season. To curb such student apathy, the councils should revise the campaign schedule and engage the student body early and often to underscore why student government matters. They must further act to effectively end the favoritism some outgoing council leaders seem to extend to their preferred candidate.

After several days of review, the office of School of General Studies Dean of Students Mary McGee announced Friday that it would uphold the impeachment of General Studies Student Council President Niko Cunningham.

The General Studies Student Council’s elections have assumed special significance in the wake of former GSSC President Niko Cunningham’s drama-filled impeachment and removal from office. Though each of the four candidates running for student body president brings unique strengths to the table, we believe that Brody Berg is best positioned to deliver what GS needs.

After several days of review, the General Studies Dean of Students office announced Friday that it would uphold the impeachment of General Studies Student Council President Niko Cunningham.

With each passing week, the atmosphere of the General Studies Student Council has grown more paranoid and acrimonious, while accomplishing nothing. No single person is to blame for the failures of this council, but no one who has served this year, including myself, is blameless.

The entire General Studies Student Council Elections Commission resigned Monday night after what members described as "being asked to legitimize what we believe to be an unconstitutional and illegitimate election."

A majority voted to remove General Studies Student Council President Niko Cunningham from office Tuesday night, but lacked the two-thirds vote required to impeach him.

Serious efforts have been made to impeach the current President of the General Studies Student Council, Niko Cunningham, after a year of controversy and dissatisfaction with his leadership. Allegations of financial impropriety have been made and the president has been asked to resign.
