College Democrats

At both the figurative and literal center of this week’s anti-war efforts are two figures standing atop the College Walk sundial, with one sounding a hand-held gong as another reads off the names of the dead in Iraq. While the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War in March came and went with little on-campus attention, student groups are now working to turn the spotlight back on the American presence in Iraq with a week of anti-war action intended to spark community discussion.

Like-minded student activists joined forces to “Remember Manhattanville” Wednesday evening in Lerner Hall.

A caravan of five vans packed with over 50 students slogged through the night and arrived back on campus yesterday morning after spending Election Day break in Kentucky, thus successfully completing the fourth annual campaign trip of the Columbia University College Democrats.

This weekend, five vans of over 60 Columbia University and Barnard College student activists will head for Lexington, Kentucky as the Columbia University College Democrats launch an army of liberal campaigners into the final days of Kentucky’s gubernatorial race.

Shouts of “The price is wrong, Bush!” and “Fight for children’s health insurance!” rang out along College Walk yesterday as the Columbia University College Democrats solicited supporters for an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.
