Athletics department

Columbia’s official athletics Web site reports that Paul Fernandes, the associate athletics director for intercollegiate sports programs and former Columbia head baseball coach, will retire after working in the University’s athletic department for 31 years.

With the fall proving to be another season of mediocrity for Columbia’s sports teams, it seems strange that the athletic department would choose this time to launch an ambitious capital campaign.

The Columbia University Department of Athletics and Physical Education announced a new policy to the University’s Club Sports Assembly yesterday regarding the promotion of a team to varsity status.
