As engineering students finish up their first round of midterm exams, the flaws of their introductory lecture classes are becoming painfully evident.

Armen A. Avanessians, SEAS ’83 and a recently named University trustee, will be the Class Day speaker for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the school announced Monday.

Much-awaited admissions envelopes were mailed out to Columbia’s early decision admits to the classes of 2012 of Columbia College and the School of Engineering and Applied Science Tuesday afternoon.
