Five professors elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences

The academy, which was founded in 1780 by John Adams, James Bowdoin, and John Hancock, announced 220 new members on Tuesday.

Philosophy dept. scraps thesis requirement

The philosophy department will no longer require a senior thesis for students to receive honors, which faculty hope will lead to a more holistic evaluation of honors candidates.

Down-grading

In the next few days, Columbia College will admit a select group of the senior class into Phi Beta Kappa on the basis of the strength of their academic records prior to senior year.
