Most politically active groups on campus operate in basically the same way. These disconnected efforts leave much to be desired. Instead of student groups plastering Hamilton or lobbying campus media, a regular voting procedure would necessitate a centralized place where upcoming initiatives could be explained.

ROTC: Wrong in 1968 and Wrong Today

With results coming in on the student referenda on NROTC, it looks like the return of the military program has been dealt a blow, albeit by a narrower margin than many expected. This is as it should be—“don’t ask, don’t tell” is a foolish and discriminatory policy, and it would be nonsensical to reward any institution for such retrograde practices.

A day after voting closed on the controversial Reserve Officer Training Corps student survey, student government leaders were sharply split on how to interpret the results.

Voting opened on Monday in the online, undergraduate poll on whether the Naval ROTC, which left campus in 1969, should be allowed to return to Columbia.
