Sports: Track and Field

When sophomore Rachel Marsh first arrived at Columbia, she felt like something was off, but wasn’t sure what. Marsh, a sprinter on the track and field team, came to New York from Garland, Texas, and spent her first semester caught up in the whirlwind rhythms of practice, competition, and academics.

The 2010s was a breakthrough decade for Columbia track and field. The decade saw improvements initiated to the program in the 1990s finally come to fruition, as the men’s and women’s team finished consistently better in the Ivy League than ever before.

Track and field will send athletes from four different events to the NCAA National Championships following a weekend that saw the Light Blue secure top finishes in several events at the NCAA Regional Championships in Tampa, Florida.

Outdoor track and field secured many top finishes at the Army Twilight Meet and the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships in Princeton this past weekend as it prepared for tougher postseason competition.

Track and field will send its elite athletes to compete at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in Philadelphia this weekend.

Track and field will send its athletes to compete at the Penn Relays and Yale Springtime Invitational this weekend as the Lions look to close out the regular season on a positive note.

Outdoor track and field will send its athletes to compete at the Virginia Challenge and the Larry Ellis Invitational following outstanding performances this past weekend at the Metropolitan Championships and the Ocean State Invitational, where the Light Blue claimed victory in nine events.

Track and field will send its distance runners to the Ocean State Invitational in Providence this weekend. The rest of the Light Blue’s athletes will compete at the Metropolitan Championships in East Brunswick.
