Founders of the Clooney Foundation for Justice, George and Amal Clooney, unveiled TrialWatch, an initiative focused on monitoring and reporting on trials around the world that pose a high risk of human rights violations, at Columbia Law School on Thursday.

Barnard’s Student Government Association announced the results of this year’s council elections on Wednesday afternoon. This year, nearly half of the races were uncontested and dominated by incumbents.

Fifty-six Barnard seniors have been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, joining the 14 who were inducted as Junior Phi Beta Kappa in the fall semester, the college announced on Tuesday.

Acclaimed actor, activist, and humanitarian Viola Davis, Juilliard ‘93, will deliver the keynote address at Barnard’s 127th Commencement in May, administrators announced in an email to the Barnard community on Monday. Davis will also receive the Barnard Medal of Distinction, the college’s highest honor, at the ceremony.

Barnard Organization of Soul Sisters is celebrating the end of Black History Month and the beginning of Women’s History Month with its annual Celebration of Black Womanhood Week, during which the group hosts events that highlight the unique intersectionality of these two identities.

Early Decision applications to Barnard for the Class of 2023 increased by 24 percent this year.

Barnard will now offer a 4+1 program with the School of Engineering and Applied Science for students to obtain a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in five years.

Hundreds of Barnard students in the Quad, 600s, and Plimpton have been left with just a handful of working washing machines and dryers in their residence halls due to ongoing technical problems with the college’s new laundry provider.
