Former University secretary at the time, Frank Fackenthal, CC 1906, described it as a class designed to “inform the student of the more outstanding and influential factors of his physical and social environment.” More than a century later, that course, Contemporary Civilization, remains a defining feature of the undergraduate experience and a central component of the University’s Core Curriculum.
