The Office of Undergraduate Admissions received 3520 early decision applications to Columbia College and the School of Engineering and Applied Science this year, setting a record for the largest pool in Columbia history.
The Office, which mailed out early decision letters to students on Thursday, received a 4.4 percent increase in applications from last year. In 2014, the Office received 3373 applications, a 2.3 percent increase.
"Over the last month, the admissions staff and I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the accomplished and inspiring individuals who will become part of the Columbia community," Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Jessica Marinaccio said in a statement. "We are so excited to welcome this new and amazing group of future Columbians, knowing that their countless talents, insights and perspectives will add in numerous ways to our vibrant campus. Columbia's Class of 2020 is off to an incredible start!"
The decisions will be released to students online Thursday night at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
