Free tampons will be available at John Jay beginning on March 21.

Students will soon be able to pick up free tampons at Medical Services in John Jay beginning on March 21.

Assistant Director for Alice! Health Promotion Katie Wilkinson said that the University will provide Tampax brand regular and super absorbency tampons for students.

"They're cardboard applicators, to be in line with the sustainability pursuits with the University," Wilkinson said.

The tampon pilot program comes after initiatives led by Columbia College Student Council and Engineering Student Council, which began over winter break, and may soon be available at other locations on campus.

Once the pilot program begins, Wilkinson said that Health Services will be looking to gauge feedback to determine how best to update the program.

"Here at Alice! and in Columbia Health, we want to provide the best, the tools that students need in order to perform at their best academically," Wilkinson said. "This is something done in conjunction with student requests and it's important that we work together, so we're really excited about the opportunity to learn more about the needs of our students and how we can move forward with the program."
