You planned your classes perfectly this semester. You got that seminar (four credits, heck yeah). You got that lecture (three credits). You got that class with dreamy Shamus Khan (four credits). You're sorted and—wait. That's only 11 credits. You need at least 12. What do you do? Panic sets in.

Anytime I open my SSOL

Or... just take one of these one-credit courses, tbh.

Barnard-Columbia Chamber Singers

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with Professor Gail Archer

If you like singing, and are looking for another extracurricular to dabble in (as well as that easy one-credit gain), look no further.

Prereqs: Audition at first meeting.

Additional info: No grade, just pass/fail. (Maybe that's a blessing.)

Barnard-Columbia Chorus

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:05 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Professor Gail Archer

Similar to the Chamber Singers, the chorus offers fun extracurricular singin' and a sweet sweet one-credit to the GPA.

Prereqs: Audition at first meeting.

Additional info: No grade, just pass/fail. (Another blessing.)

Emerging Scholars Program Seminar

Times vary. Seminars are taught by undergraduate TAs.

Peer-led computer science seminar. Kids who love computers talking about computers to other kids who love computers. Romantic, tbh.

Prereqs: Instructor approval.

Coreqs: COMS W1004/COMS W1007 or ENGI E1006.

Additional info: Sorry, SEAS. This won't satisfy your credit requirements. Sorry, comp sci majors. This won't satisfy your major requirements.

Rehearsal and Performance in Dance

Times vary.

You'd better be ready to dance, because this is a very serious dancing class for dancers. Students prepare and participate in a full-scale production, and roles are available for dancers, mainly, but there are also spots for choreographers, stage managers, and technicians.

me: trying to get that GPA boost

Prereqs: Audition.

Additional info: Can only be taken a maximum of three times for three credits.

Education Colloquium: STEM & Education

Times vary.

In discussion sessions, you'll explore different contexts of STEM education at different schooling levels. Despite popular belief, the class is not simply people watching SEAS students get an education. Tragic.

Ear Training I

Times vary.

You're gonna learn how to sight-read music. Basically you'll have #perfectpitch. I'm jealous. So is Britney, tbh. Have you heard that new album? Girl...bye.

Prereqs: Instructor approval.

Additional info: Only meets for 90-min classes, twice a week. That's refreshing.

Me: ready to ear-train for that extra one credit

Oral History Workshop

Times vary.

If you want to forget about the oral history of your summer sixteen (regrets), and improve your oral history in a more academic way, look no further!

Prereqs: Instructor approval.

Additional info: It's a Friday class… is it worth it?

Neuroscience: Student Journal Club

Fridays, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A neuroscience class with a very creative-writing feel. Students journal on a variety of topics relating to brain, behavior, and personal well-being. Enthralling.

Additional info: No textbooks required. And you can journal about your health!

O ya, health!

Be sure to scoop these babies up before class shopping period ends on Friday, Sept. 16.

Anna Lokey is Spectrum's Deputy Editor and a CC sophomore. She definitely doesn't need to add any more credits to her schedule, which is currently a mess. She can be reached at and @annalokey.
