Every March, when the housing lottery comes around, what students find the most daunting is not where they will be living, but rather who will be in their housing group. Finding a group can be one of the most stressful part of the housing process. What happens when you are just one person short of snagging a spot in Plimpton? Or what if your group is larger than the average suite? Here are all of the different housing options for groups of one to eight people at both Barnard and Columbia.

Barnard

Group of one:

To get a single at Barnard, you can choose from corridor-style singles in Hewitt Hall, Elliot Hall, and Sulzberger Tower. There are also large studio singles in 601 West 110 St., which cost more than other Barnard dorms per semester. Keep in mind that Sulz Tower is usually taken by seniors.

Group of two:

You have the options of corridor-style doubles in Hewitt Hall, Sulzberger Tower, and Andersen Hall, doubles in 12-person clusters in Elliot Hall, and 2-person suites in 600 West 116th St. and 601 West 110 St.

Group of three:

If you are in a group of three, you can opt for triples available in Hewitt Hall and 601 West 110 St. Note that there are only two triples available in Hewitt and six in 601 West 110 St.

Groups of four

You have the choice of the following suites:

-Two doubles in 601 West 110 St.

-Two doubles in 600 West 116th St.

-Four singles in 620 West 116th St.

-Two singles and a double in Cathedral Gardens.

The suites in 620 are highly coveted, so unless you are a senior, you will probably not get a high enough lottery number to get them. Additionally, Cathedral Gardens is popular among seniors; however, it is also the farthest dorm from campus, located on 110th Street and Manhattan Avenue.

Group of five:

The options for a group of five are the following suites:

- Three singles and a double in Cathedral Gardens, 620 West 116th St., and 616 West 116th St.

- Five singles in 620 West 116th St.

- A double and a triple in 601 West 110 St.

Groups of six:

You can share a suite from the following:

- Four singles and a double in Plimpton.

- Two doubles and two singles in 620 West 116th St. and 616 West 116th St.

- Four singles and a double in Cathedral Gardens.

- Six singles in Cathedral Gardens.

- Three doubles in 600 West 116th St. and 601 West 110 St.

Groups of seven:

For groups of seven, the two options are the following suites:

- Two doubles and three singles in 620 West 116th St.

- Three doubles and a single in 600 West 116th St.

Columbia

You also have the options of apartment-style studio singles and one-bedrooms in Watt Hall, apartment-style one-bedrooms in Woodbridge Hall, and studio singles in the Residential Brownstones.

Group of two:

Bear in mind that Carlton Arms is the farthest Columbia dorm from the main campus—located in between 108th and 109th on Riverside.

Group of four:

The options for a group of four include suites with:

- A double and two singles in Carlton Arms.

- 47 Claremont with suites made up of two doubles and three singles.

- 600 West 113th St., which houses suites of three doubles and a single.

Group of eight:

The two choices for a group of eight are suites with three doubles and two singles in Carlton Arms and Ruggles Hall.
