Boo!

Scary costumes, trick-or-treating, and the best part of Halloween—heavy pillowcases full of candy—are just around the corner. But, this poses an important question: What candies—and more specifically chocolates—are the best? If the days after the Halloweens of your youth were spent arguing about the superiority of Reese’s Pieces over Hershey’s (or vice versa), then this article is for you. We here at Spectrum have decided to sort out the classic Halloween chocolate debacle once and for all by hosting our very own taste test.

The contenders:

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

Kit Kat Crisp Wafers

Almond Joy

Snickers

Milky Way

Twix

Hershey’s

Rater 1:

“I used to love this as a kid, but now it’s too sweet. I guess I’m getting old.”

4/5

Rater 2:

“Would only eat in s’mores.”

3.8/4

Rater 3:

“Iconic, but pales in comparison to a nice dark chocolate.”

3.5/5

Kit Kat

Rater 1:

“This is what I eat when I’m sad.”

4.5/5

Rater 2:

“Iconic. Makes me want to split it, use it as chopsticks, and eat more chocolate.”

4.3/5

Rater 3:

“Delicate wafer and sweet, sweet milk chocolate. Simple, but delicious.”

4.5/5

Almond Joy

Rater 1:

“I don’t know if chocolate and coconut goes together.”

2.9/5

Rater 2:

“Makes me feel like I’ve escaped this chasm called New York City and gone to a tropical island.”

4.7/5

Rater 3:

“Should be called “coconut joy.” Regardless, made for you if coconut’s your thing.”

4/5

Snickers

Rater 1:

“Oh my god, Snickers are okay! The peanut butter is kinda weird though. It’s like a Reese’s wannabe.”

2.8/5

Rater 2:

“Kinda underwhelming. The textures blend into each other. Nuts aren’t crunchy enough—their texture is like undercooked oatmeal.”

3.4/5

Rater 3:

“Decent nutty chocolate flavor. Would take in a pinch but would choose others if given a choice.”

3/5

Milky Way

Rater 1:

“It’s literally stuck to the roof of my mouth.”

2.5/5

Rater 2:

“Stuck in my teeth. Feel like I need to visit the dentist.”

2.9/5

Rater 3:

“Caramel flavor is a bit overwhelming. A little too sweet.”

3/5

Twix

Rater 1:

“I prefer the wafer to the caramel, but since it’s all together in Twix, I have to suffer through the caramel to get to the wafer.”

3.5/5

Rater 2:

“Soft luscious caramel + crispy wafer = hit me up any day.”

4.8/5

Rater 3:

“Sweet and crunchy. Crispy and sticky. Fulfilling, but not overbearing. A classic treat.”

4.5/5

Reese’s

Rater 1:

“Just my personal preference, but I don’t think that peanut butter and chocolate go together.”

3/5

Rater 2:

“Tastes like dried up peanut butter with a dab of chocolate.”

3.7/5

Rater 3:

“My favorite candy as a kid. Reese’s is why I feel bad for people who are allergic to peanuts.”

5/5

The final results

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar: 3.8

Kit Kat Crisp Wafers: 4.3

Almond Joy: 3.9

Snickers: 3.1
