The cross country team probably runs more in a week than you've run in the last year. For the men, weekly training averages 85 miles—with no days off—while the women track an average of 62 miles.
The season runs from mid-August through the end of October, so in total, the men are putting in upward of 935 miles during the racing season alone. Of course, that doesn't factor in summer mileage or the winter and spring track seasons.
In all, the training prepares the team for weekly meets in which men race 8-kilometers and the women race 5-kilometers.
