Columbia showcase its depth this weekend at Van Cortlandt Park.

Cross country traveled uptown on Friday, taking part in the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Light Blue men took third in the 8-kilometer race, while the women took eighth in the 5-kilometer course. Both teams competed against schools from the tri-state area, with Army capturing the men's race, and Towson prevailing on the women's side.

Columbia did not run its top runners in either race, as those athletes continue training for higher profile races, like the Paul Short Run and Wisconsin Invitational, which are slated for October.

Junior Mike McClemens earned the top spot on the men's side, finishing 26:31.3 for 19th. Sophomore Dan Schumacher was just behind in 20th, crossing the line .4 seconds later. Junior Tommy Rooney made it three Lions in-a-row, taking the next position in 26:32.5.

On the women's side, junior Katie Sammer clocked a 19:35.9 for 34th and the Light Blue's top finish of the day. Senior Georgia Tuttle took 44th in 19:58.4 and first-year Katie Wasserman was 55th in 20:07.9.

Next up for the Light Blue is the Paul Short Run on October 1.
