Hello, prospies. Is it OK if I call you that? It doesn't have to be OK—this is Columbia, and here we respect protesting if you don't like the way someone is treating you, like on Saturday when Lupe Fiasco kept calling the women in the audience "bitches" and I shouted, "Please stop calling me that," and my friends said, "He can't hear you." They were probably right, but I wouldn't have shouted if it weren't for Columbia training me to call people out like that....
As a first-year, I denied the existence of the "sophomore slump." As a sophomore–well, let's just say I've slumped. I've been uninspired and miserable. My unanticipated change of major left gaping holes in my major requirements. I struggled through discussion sections in a zombie-like stupor and sat through entire lectures glassy-eyed and inert. I lacked energy that I'd had in abundance as a first-year. Time, it seemed, had leeched away at me....
