We already know that Columbia’s intense stress culture can make mental wellness difficult and that our administration aims to fix this but the issue still persists. The “Columbia bubble” can often feel like a fishbowl due to its isolating effects; there is a certain loneliness that comes from being overwhelmed with work and needing to study instead of attending social events or practicing self-care.

University Senate's Student Affairs Committee just released a brief statement on the results of this year's Quality of Life Survey (they'll continue to analyze the data over the next few months). Most importantly, overall satisfaction at Columbia rose from a .87 to a .94 on a -3 to 3 scale. So that means overall satisfaction at Columbia is just above ambivalence--go Lions! Still, even through the rate only rose by .07, improvement's improvement.

I don't like dogs. They're smelly and gross. I never want a dog.
