University President Lee Bollinger shared his views on the University’s role in an era increasingly dominated by the forces of globalization, political uncertainty, and the free speech debate during a fireside chat on Thursday.

The Office of the President states that during Lee Bollinger’s 16 years as University President he has fostered “an innovative and sustainable approach to global engagement,” despite evidence showing that the university has invested in or partnered with foreign and domestic institutions that have questionable backgrounds. As undergraduates, should we support his efforts to expand Columbia abroad?

"The best thing about global thought is [that] nobody knows what it is," Carol Gluck, the current chair and one of the six founding members of the Committee on Global Thought, says.

Students and faculty involved in programs offered out of Columbia's global centers, which are a key part of the University's efforts to create a more global education, expressed concerns about the accessibility—especially for engineering and science students—of such programs in Low Library last Friday as a part of a World Leaders Forum event.
