Last Wednesday, approximately 50 members of Columbia Divest for Climate Justice staged a protest on campus. Among other demands, CDCJ called for Columbia to divest its endowment from "direct and indirect holdings in the top 200 coal, oil, and natural gas companies." The strength of the protesters' convictions—extending so far as signing a civil disobedience pledge—undoubtedly caught some students' attention. But for many more in the Columbia community, what was truly attention-grabbing was the unannounced and unexplained NYPD presence along Broadway....
