Despite rise in media coverage, local crime remains relatively low

The disproportionate increase in both local fear and media coverage of crime coincides with the inauguration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams. According to Bloomberg, since Adams took office, there have been nearly 800 stories per month focused on crime in New York City, compared to an average of 132 stories per month during former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s two terms.
