Barnard’s Student Government Association issued a statement supporting the unionization of Columbia graduate workers on Monday night.

Recently elected First-Year Class Council President Sara Morales, BC ’21, and Vice President Tina Gao, BC ’21, who campaigned as first-generation, low-income students, are planning to prioritize the needs of students like themselves in their new roles on Barnard’s Student Government Association.

Candidates for Barnard Student Government Association’s first-year class council shared platforms that addressed recurring student concerns, such as Barnard’s dining hall swipe-in and dorm guest policies, but also paid more attention to the experiences of low-income, undocumented, and international students on campus at the candidates’ forum on Sunday.
