Kecia Hayes was named Executive Director of the Double Discovery center on Thursday Morning.

The Double Discovery Center has appointed Teachers College alumna Kecia Hayes as its new executive director, Columbia College announced Thursday morning.

The DDC hosts programs that help low-income and first-generation youths in the Harlem community pursue opportunities in higher education. Reaching approximately 1,000 students each year, the DDC provides tutoring, test prep, and college counseling, among other services.

Hayes, a native of New York, received Master of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Teachers College before earning a doctorate from the CUNY Graduate Center. She most recently served as the founding director of the Raising Educational Achievement Coalition of Harlem (REACH), a program at Teachers College that works to improve access to educational opportunities and resources for Harlem students.

“Kecia’s experience in urban education leadership, as well as her passion for transforming schools in the local community, will be a valuable asset to DDC’s current and future families,” Dean of Columbia College James Valentini said.
