Knight First Amendment Institute writes open letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson, urges openness to criticism

After Johnson endorsed moving to “tele-town” and “Facebook Live” town halls, four representatives of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia wrote a response.

The letter states that non-violent debate and protest “are the very hallmarks of democracy,” and that elected officials “benefit” from exposure to “the wide range of views” held by constituents.
