Barnard receives landmark $9.5 million bequest from Hilma Carter, BC ’45, GSAS ’47

The posthumous donation, which will fund the Hilma Ollila Carter and Benny Carter Scholarship Fund, comes after Barnard’s debt rose to $274 million in February.

Carter’s bequest, as well as the remaining portion of a trust that she created in 2015, will fund a scholarship to support students with financial need.
