Columbia lowers flags to half-staff in line with Trump order after Dolly Parton death

Columbia, which is a private university, is not obligated to lower its flags in accordance with Trump’s order.

The University previously followed federal guidance when it lowered its flags to half mast in July following the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and in September 2025 after the assassination of controversial right-wing political commentator Charlie Kirk.
